SHOVELWARE- Culture jamming?

Commercial, Propaganda or Advertising.

To me, they are nothing but a good looking face. I like to have my own idea on everything.

But without first hand experience, not just some first hand experience, but a lot of reference experience, I cannot give a real good idea of something just on my own.
So knowledge from second hand source is undeniable.

Then, I will have to face all kinds of commercial, propaganda and advertisment.

Generally speaking, I dont think they are either good or bad, they are what they are. Everything they said are just an new idea, that can effect our final decision.

When buying stuff, first, I always buy stuff that I know. When buying some new stuff, either I heard of it from some source of information I received such as youtube videos and movies, or I found out that I need something, and heard of some brand from my research. To my opinion, all the commercial need to achieve, is just to put their product on my radar.

I really like looking at those culture jamming art piece, they are really creative and some of them have some really good idea that I never though of, giving me a new way of thinking and looking at something.

And about propaganda. I think all the media and government are posting their propaganda all the time. The message they send might looks good, but it could be based on the the ten years of propaganda they have been brain washing us with, and today, they just add a little bit of spice here and there, when people accept and let it get into their auto pilot system of thinking, then the media gives another bit of spice. So propaganda could be very under the surface.

And meanwhile, we see a lot of propaganda style comic, I dont think they are the real powerful weapon of propaganda. People who would watch these comic are people who understand and agree with the polity idea already.

Failed trying.

Fake reality show project

I'm thinking about a fake reality show project.
Simulating force on force home defense scenario.
My roommate who is the main guy. (I will call him M)
And unknown invader (B)
One night, when my roommate is working or sleeping in his room. Then hear some weird voice in the living room. So M decides to check it out with his handgun (We will use a BB gun), and since my roommate doesn't have a flash light in real life. M will not using a flashlight in this show.

1. M walked out his room and hear some voice in the kitchen, M found out it is some homeless guy (B) break in for some food. Then M can choose to shoot, or ask B get out of there. Then what happen could be B just walked out or B start arguing with M, even worse, B could start throwing stuff at M. Lets see how M is gonna response.

2. M walked out his room and since he does not have a flashlight, he switch on the big lamp of the living room. Then he saw B is searching for stuff in the living room. Branch: B saw his handgun, and just start run away, or B knee down and ask for mercy, even worse, when B is running away, B pull a gun out and start spraying and pray. What reaction M is going to have?

Or B is not alone, he got a friend behind M? Or B start struggle with M try to take his gun?

3. M walked out to the kitchen and find out it is his neighbor B walked into the wrong room drunk and piss off for some people stole his pizza in the refrigerator. So M can put the gun behind his hip and talk to B. Branch : B can feel so happy to see M, then realize B himself is in the wrong room. Or B got angry and start ask M if he ate B's pizza. Even worse, B start striking M. What does B gonna do?

4.M walked out his room with his gun. All the sudden, someone yelled "Gun!" Then pew pew pew pew pew pew pew, M is lying on the floor with all kind of bullet holes. Turns out, this is a SWAT raid. Invaders are SWAT team operators.


5. M walked into kitchen find a person B is eating stuff in the dumpster, he tell B to stop and turn around. B is not responding. So M put his hand on B's shoulder.
Branch: B turn around and jump on M, B is a Zombie !!!!
Or B shot M with a small pistol.

Or B grab M's hand and perform a Krav maga take down. LOL

 


6. Last thing I got. What ever happened, M discharge his gun and killed B, when M is checking B's body, he hear someone is moaning， so he run over and find out the bullets go through the wall and shot M's roommate. (Though you are not suppose to take the fire if you dont know whats behind your target, but here, M does have no idea what is behind the target. It could happen.)

Augmented Body--- Memory control device.

A device that help us to memory and help us to manage our memory.
We do not need to pay attention to memory information we receive.

And we can delete information we do not want to remember, like bad memory.


Before:

You can hear something from other people you don't like and that could be in your focus for a really long time which might make you not happy for the whole day.

Or sometime you were not paying attention for a second and missed some important information. And you don't have a chance to ask for a repeat.

With a piece of device.
Helps us memory by receiving every information we receive. And save them as a data in the device.

Now, it is how it looks like.

When you miss something they said, no need to worry, everything has been saved in the device, and if you think it is important, you can even highlight it with a MARK.

Or if you want to forget some memory that can affect your day, 

you just wipe them out entirely.

(If the bad memory will affect your behavior and you will be good if in the future, there is some magic pill can make it get out of your memory for good. 

Then why do you let the bad memory affect you right now? )

Yeah yeah yeah, i know. I can be really dark if we go deeper on this topic.

Government can use it to control our mind. If we can save and delete data. Then we can edit it with no problem as long as you has the permission. And for hackers, its not a problem.

I like how i can come up with some picture of what the writer talks about in first paragraph.

Embodiment:

conscious mind and the physiological structures 

Embodiment is experienced from the inside, from the feelings, emotions, and sensations

When you are in a good mood, a good state, your body looks stronger, you walk faster, your chest are out open, you make eye contact with people walk by. Thats how inside change how we look outside.

body and embodiment are always dynamically interacting with one another




Abstract ideas of the body likewise arise from the interplay between prevailing cultural formations and the beliefs, observations, and experiences that count as empirical evidence in a given society. In this view, embodiment and the body are emergent phenomena arising from the dynamic flux that we try to understand analytically by parsing it into such concepts as biology and culture, evolution and technology. 

So body, the ideas of body are not just body, they are effected by the culture, evolution and technology. Like when the society are weak, they admire strong men. When people are living a peace life for a long time, Justin Beaber kind of girl like men can go up to the stage.

Chance & Indeterminacy

My system

Computer screenshot by chance.

Set the alarm in 30 mins, every time it goes off. I took a screenshot of my computer on what I am watching or doing.

It is funny to see how I waste my nights and nights.

Do it Weekend nights from 7 PM to 10 PM.

And Monday night from 7 pm to 10 pm.
So it will be 7 screenshot everyday. I will have 21 screenshot in the end.

Work and medium: I will use all the screenshot as material making a digital art work.

Pieces:

The first one has the most amount of details. I even put some tear on the guy's face if you look close.

The second one here I spent a lot of time working on the shade. So the shadow and light are more realist.

 

Final Composition.

I set my phone on alarm, sometime when it goes off, I was not in front of my computer, so I walked back and took a screenshot which shows what I was doing before I left my computer.

Its interested to find out that it is not like I was excepting that most of the screenshot would be my desktop.
Most of the time when I left my computer, I dont just go back to the desktop but just leave whatever I was working on.


Q&A:

- How this working process compares to the way you usually work? What was your experience letting decisions be made by chance? What was it like to make art using someone else's recipe?

  More often than not, when teacher just tells us to do whatever we like. I lost it. I cannot design which one I want to do and wasted a lot of time on decision making process. But now, with a system to choose what material I am going to use for making the art piece, it gives me a direction and it is fun using those random stuff to create something. I think it is not a big deal using others' recipe, it is just an experience trying other's method. We need to learn from second hand experience a lot to enhance what we know and practice.

- What do you think about the work you've made? Does it have "aesthetic appeal"? Did it suggest other ideas or ways to work?

  Its fun and feel like the same situation when you go commercial and you do what people give you and told you to do.
  I tried the rule of three and tried to follow the golden ration in the way of composition. In the final composition, I assemble different three intense of tones and put them together.

- If you did so, what was it like to work collaboratively?

My work does not require any coop, but it will be more random if I use my roommates' screen shot ever 30 minutes.
